Through my artwork, I explore intersections of identity, disability, trauma, and resilience. My pieces, ranging from fiber art to digital creations, reflect my journey with Spina Bifida and the medical challenges it has brought, including themes of loss and trauma. This also involves reflections upon an accident unrelated to the disability I experienced as a child where a plate glass window shattered, nearly cutting me in half.
Each artwork embodies a narrative about my "normal," inviting viewers to consider the complexities of embracing their own normal. I use katazome (Japanese paper stencil print dye technique), screen printing, photography, and digital layering to express these intricate themes and maintain an ongoing dialogue with my physical reality. I hope my work resonates with others navigating their normal.
