"A Childhood Dream," 12in by 7in.
This fiber art piece is a response to the missing part of my coccyx due to Spina Bifida. Through katazome, screen-printing, and hand-painted fiber-reactive dyes on raw silk, I express the reality of living with this partially missing bone. The rich reds and browns represent my connection to my bones, while the sky blue area around the coccyx embodies my dreams as a child of wanting it to be complete because this meant my spinal cord wouldn’t be damaged. Despite this loss, this artwork represents the recognition of a type of beauty rising from imperfection.
